Product description

Common name: Lettuce. Scientific name: Lactuca sativa. Description of lettuce plant: • A type of plant belonging to the genus Lactuca from the Asteraceae family or broad-leaved Compositae. Lettuce is a vegetable whose leaves are eaten fresh raw or in salads, and it is rich in nutrients, especially vitamins, salts, oils, and proteins. Uses and benefits of lettuce plant: • Often used in popular dishes. • Has many medicinal benefits. Original habitat: • The original habitat of lettuce is in the Mediterranean basin, especially Europe and Asia. Suitable climatic conditions and soil for cultivation: • Lettuce is a cool-season plant, suitable for a moderate to cold climate. The optimal temperatures for seed germination range between 15 and 22 °C. Its vegetative growth prefers temperatures between 15-20 °C. However, some varieties can tolerate higher temperatures more than others. Cultivation method: • Prepare the soil properly by cleaning it from stones and weeds and plowing it. • Choose the appropriate seed type for lettuce. • Sow lettuce seeds in the prepared soil in the form of seeds for later transplantation, or purchase ready seedlings and plant them later. • Monitor the growth of lettuce seeds after two weeks of planting, noting that they have branched out on both sides and not just one side. • Transplant seedlings if they are close together, by maintaining a reasonable distance between each seedling, because closely packed lettuce weakens each other. • Constantly monitor lettuce seedlings, watering and loosening the soil around them, and weeding around them. • Harvest lettuce before the head enlarges, before it swells and elongates, to obtain a delicious, sweet taste free of bitterness.
