I decided to gather these lines within a book after I felt our urgent need for motivating and inspiring success stories, for contemporary examples we follow; whoever browses the shelves of our Arab libraries will find many imported success stories, which grew in an environment different from ours, and in a surrounding different from ours; which reduces their impact and effectiveness; so I saw that I should put these distinguished Saudi faces in your hands, perhaps it will contribute even slightly to sharpening ambitions and boosting confidence within us; the successful people I picked from across our dear homeland did not grow up in American Boston or Japanese Tokyo or Dutch Amsterdam, but they grew up in the Kingdom, and achieved various and differing successes, studied in our own classrooms, and lived in homes similar to ours. On a personal level, I was influenced by many I met and wrote about in this book: Like Umm Abdulhadi Al-Merri, the cleaner at the 14th Elementary School in Jubail, who is currently studying at the College of Education in Khafji at the age of sixty, and who used to sweep classrooms with one hand and sweep her ignorance with the other, continuing her education under difficult circumstances and amidst many problems; with her son and daughter whom she cares for and raises. I was very affected by the struggle of my friend Sanu Sharaheili, who has special needs, who used to go to his school in Al-Khqaqa village in Harith Province in Jazan region, which is about a kilometer and a half from his home, crawling because his father was unable to provide him with a wheelchair at that time, while now he is running towards achieving his dream of obtaining a doctorate in International Dispute Management in Britain.
