Bizotifen 0.5 mg tablets What is Bizotifen and what are its indications: Bizotifen tablets belong to a group of medicines called antihistamines or serotonin antagonists. Bizotifen tablets are a treatment for migraines. They may help stop the effects of some substances that occur naturally in your body called "serotonin," "histamine," and "tryptamine," which are involved in causing some types of headaches, including migraines. Do not take Bizotifen: • If you are allergic to Bizotifen or any other ingredients in this medicine • If you are breastfeeding Precautions and warnings: Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Bizotifen if: • You have glaucoma • You have any condition that may cause urinary retention (such as prostate gland enlargement) • You have kidney or liver problems • You have a history of epilepsy • You are pregnant Possible side effects of Bizotifen: You may notice the following side effects: • Increased appetite, which may lead to weight gain • Drowsiness • Dizziness • Dry mouth • Feeling sick • Fatigue • Constipation Other medicines and Bizotifen: Tell your doctor if you are taking any of the following: • Medicines that help you sleep or relax (including sleeping pills, sedatives, and antihistamines like cold or hay fever tablets) • Antihistamines (including cold remedies) • Blood pressure lowering medicines (such as guanethidine) How to take Bizotifen: Swallow the tablets with water. Adults and elderly: 1.5 mg daily, taken as a single dose at night or in three divided doses. The dose should be adjusted with a maximum of 4.5 mg per day. Up to 3 mg can be given as a single daily dose. Children (aged two years and older): Up to 1.5 mg of Bizotifen per day. This is three 0.5 mg tablets. It is usually better to give this in two or three smaller doses. Do not use 1.5 mg tablets for children. Do not give more than 1 mg in one dose. This is two 0.5 mg tablets. Renal and hepatic impairment: Caution should be exercised in patients with kidney or liver impairment, and dose adjustment may be necessary. • Take the tablets whole. Drink water with them if it helps you swallow. • If you are taking Bizotifen once daily, take it in the evening a few hours before bed, as any drowsiness will help you sleep. If you are taking your tablets in two or three doses, distribute them evenly throughout the day. Storage of Bizotifen: • Keep out of sight and reach of children. • Do not store above 25°C. • Do not use Bizotifen tablets after the expiration date printed on the label/carton/bottle.
