The choice of starting dose depends on: your cholesterol levels, your risk level of having a heart attack or stroke, whether you have a factor that makes you more sensitive to potential side effects. Your doctor may decide to give you a lower dose (5 mg) if: you are of Asian origin (Japanese, Chinese, Filipino, Vietnamese, Korean, Indian), you are over 70 years old, you have moderate kidney problems, you are at risk of muscle pain (myopathy). Dose escalation and maximum daily dose: your doctor may decide to increase your dose until you get the appropriate amount of Rosuvastatin. If you start with 5 mg, your doctor may double this dose to 10 mg, then 20 mg, then 40 mg if necessary. If you start with 10 mg, your doctor may double it to 20 mg then 40 mg if necessary. The maximum daily dose of Rosuvastatin is 40 mg. If you are taking Rosuvastatin to reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, or related health problems: the recommended dose is 20 mg daily. However, your doctor may decide to use a lower dose if you have any of the factors mentioned above. Children and adolescents aged 6-17 years: the dose ranges from 5 to 20 mg once daily.
