Tizanidine Hydrochloride Tablets 2 mg What is the use of Tizanidine Hydrochloride: Tizanidine Hydrochloride is used to relax tense muscles resulting from: painful muscle spasms associated with fixed and functional disorders of the spine (cervical syndromes and lumbar syndromes) or after surgery (such as hip osteoporosis, a joint disease affecting the hip, or disc herniation). Spasm (muscle stiffness and tightness) caused by neurological problems such as multiple sclerosis (a disabling disease of the brain and spinal cord), chronic myelopathy (spinal cord injury), degenerative spinal cord diseases, cerebrovascular accidents (such as stroke), and cerebral palsy (a group of permanent movement disorders starting in early childhood). Do not take Tizanidine Hydrochloride: if you are allergic to Tizanidine Hydrochloride or any components of this medication. Inform your doctor about any allergies and symptoms you have. Possible side effects: Potential side effects include allergic reactions and signs of sudden withdrawal syndrome if you stop taking the medication suddenly, such as rebound high blood pressure and irregular heartbeat (increased reflexive blood pressure and heart rate), which may lead to a cerebrovascular accident (stroke). Side effects that may occur at low doses (such as those recommended for relieving painful muscle spasms) include drowsiness, fatigue, gastrointestinal problems, dry mouth, increased liver enzymes, dizziness, nausea, and low blood pressure. Side effects that may occur at higher doses (such as those recommended for treating spasm) include muscle weakness, low blood pressure or heart rate, sleep difficulties and other sleep problems, hallucinations, and liver inflammation or failure. Other side effects include confusion, dizziness, loss of consciousness, and blurred vision. Other medications and Tizanidine Hydrochloride: Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take any other medications, including prescribed drugs, over-the-counter medicines, herbs, vitamins, and supplements. If you are taking medications known as strong CYP1A2 inhibitors (such as antiarrhythmics, ticlopidine, cimetidine, some fluoroquinolones, contraceptive pills, rofecoxib). If you are taking medications that may cause QT prolongation (a type of arrhythmia). If you are taking medications for high blood pressure, including diuretics. If you are taking sedatives or hypnotics (used to induce sleep). If you are taking antihistamines (used for allergies). If you are taking rifampicin (antibiotic). How to take Tizanidine Hydrochloride: Painful muscle spasms The recommended usual dose is 2-4 mg orally three times daily in tablet form. Your doctor may prescribe an additional dose of 2 or 4 mg if your condition is severe. The maximum daily dose should not exceed 36 mg. Neurogenic spasm The maximum recommended initial dose is 6 mg per day divided into 3 doses. Your doctor may gradually increase the dose to achieve an optimal response (usually between 12 to 24 mg/day). The total daily dose should not exceed 36 mg.
