Dexromethorphan 15 mg / 5 ml syrup Why is Dexromethorphan used? It is a medicine used to help relieve dry, irritating cough. The liquid contains dextrorphan hydrobromide, which is a cough suppressant to help stop persistent coughing. Do not use Dexromethorphan: • If you have ever had an adverse reaction to Dexromethorphan or any other ingredients in this medicine • If you have a lung disease • If you are taking, or have taken in the past two weeks, medications for depression known as monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) • If you are taking selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (used to treat depression and anxiety such as fluoxetine, paroxetine, sertraline) • For children under 12 years old Precautions and warnings: • If you have liver problems • If you have chronic bronchitis, emphysema, asthma, or if you have had a cough for several weeks or a cough with lots of mucus • If you are taking any other cough and cold medicines • If your child is prone to developing allergic reactions (such as hypersensitivity reactions) • If you are addicted or have previously been addicted to opioids, alcohol, prescription medicines, or illegal drugs • If you have previously experienced withdrawal symptoms such as agitation, anxiety, tremors, or sweating when stopping alcohol or drugs • If your doctor has told you that you are a slow metabolizer of CYP2D6 Possible side effects: Stop using the product and seek immediate medical care if you experience sore throat, swelling of the eyes, face, lips, or tongue, fainting, or difficulty breathing. Stop using the product if you experience hives or itching on the face or body. Other medicines and Dexromethorphan: If you are taking any other medicines, including: • Some antidepressants such as norepinephrine-dopamine reuptake inhibitors (NDRI), including bupropion • Antipsychotics (medications used to treat mood disorders such as haloperidol, thioridazine, perphenazine) • Antiarrhythmic agents (medications used to treat irregular heartbeat such as amiodarone, propafenone, quinidine, flecainide) • Calcium mimetics (medications used to treat secondary hyperparathyroidism and high parathyroid hormone levels such as cinacalcet) • Antifungal (terbinafine) • Opioid painkillers How to use Dexromethorphan: Adults and children aged 12 years and above: Take one 5 ml spoonful four times a day. How to store Dexromethorphan: Do not store above 30°C. Keep this medicine out of sight and reach of children. Do not use this medicine after the expiration date printed on the carton after EXP.
