Zome (pronounced "zoh-may") is a category of Japanese craftsmanship that focuses on fabric dyeing. This ancient art form involves many different techniques to create patterns on fabric using dyes derived from plants, flowers, fruits, and other natural sources, closely linked to many aspects of Japanese history and culture. Inspired by this rich artistic heritage, Spyderco's Zome knives are unique variations of our lightweight models, featuring handles made of glass-reinforced nylon (FRN) molded by injection. The handles are molded in a light base color and then individually hand-dyed by expert Japanese artisans. Using a technique reminiscent of traditional Hikezumi (brush dyeing), different colors of dye are manually applied to the handle to create distinctive and unique patterns. Like classic Japanese dyeing methods, the special dyes used fully penetrate the FRN to color it permanently. The lightweight Delica 4 features all the hallmark qualities of its lineage, including a full-flat ground VG-10 stainless steel blade, a strong back lock mechanism, stainless steel liners, and a four-position pocket clip.
