To update these classic models, Spyderco repeatedly upgrades them using different new materials for the blade steel and handle. The Calypso knife is one of the basic classic knives that has produced many different types and attracted large numbers of knife buyers to the benefits of the thick, leaf-shaped blade with a flat ground. It is a suitable knife for men and women, based on the premise that a comfortable pocket knife should feel like a natural extension of your hand. The Calypso lineage is a larger version of the original Calypso Jr. with a three-inch blade, featuring a blade length of three and a half inches. It is called Caly3.5. The blade, shaped like a leaf, consists of three layers of steel. The core is made of high-carbon Japanese powdered steel ZDP-189, with the outer layers made of softer, more flexible 420J2 steel. The blade is completely flat with a simple edge that easily cuts through materials. It comes with a gray carbon fiber handle and a mid-back lock. A low wire clip designed for carrying in the right pocket. The excellent working environment means more control over the cutting edge. Caly 3.5 achieves this through a large finger hole located where the handle meets the blade. The hole creates a comfortable opening that naturally places the index finger on the bottom side of the handle while the thumb is placed directly above the index finger on the blade spine.
