The GEL-NIMBUS line has been ASICS' softest-riding shoe since 1999. "Nimbus" is Latin for cloud — and the whole idea is that you feel like you are running on one instead of on asphalt. Generation 28 was released in Japan in January 2026.

What is new in generation 28

• About 20 g lighter than generation 27 — the outsole rubber was redistributed so it sits only where friction actually happens, dropping weight while grip and durability stay where they were.
• FF BLAST PLUS midsole — a light, soft foam that absorbs the impact of every step instead of passing it up to your knee. Around 24% of the foam comes from renewable sugarcane.
• PureGEL in the heel — the shock-absorbing unit sits where the ground hits hardest over long runs, and it is what makes the final kilometres kinder on your joints.
• A knitted engineered-knit upper — one fabric whose knit pattern and pore size change zone by zone: more ventilation where you need it, firmer hold where it matters. The tongue and collar use a stretch fabric that wraps the instep softly, without pressure.
• HYBRID ASICSGRIP outsole — two rubbers: ASICSGRIP through the midfoot for high traction on varied surfaces, and AHARPLUS at the forefoot and heel, roughly three times more wear-resistant than ASICS' conventional rubber — exactly the two places running actually wears down.

Who is it for?

For anyone starting to run, and for anyone whose goal is finishing a full marathon. It is first and foremost a shoe for long daily distances: comfort and absorption before top speed. If what you need is stability against the ankle rolling inward, the GEL-KAYANO 33 is your shoe, not the Nimbus.
