Product description

This research addresses a category of long-lived poets who lived in the pre-Islamic era and Islam until the end of the Umayyad period. Some ancient narrators paid attention to this category of poets and authored books containing some of their news and poetry; but only a few of these have reached us. Therefore, this research was conducted to gather the scattered news of the long-lived poets and their poetry within the depths of Arab heritage. The research was divided into two sections: study and collection; and the study was established after collecting the poetry of long-lived poets who did not have separate collections or whose poetry was compiled within tribal anthologies. The collection included poetry from fifty-six poets, totaling 1,516 lines. The first section discussed the concept of linguistic and literary longevity, its causes and signs, and the conditions of the long-lived in pre-Islamic and Islamic times on both individual and collective levels. It also covered sources of poetry of the long-lived and their documentation, traditional themes of their poetry, and other themes such as complaints about women and children, loneliness and alienation, then complaints about death, the relationship of time with death, its inevitability, and the attitudes of the long-lived towards it. It also addressed death in Islamic poetry among some long-lived poets who experienced Islam.
