The Arabs had nothing that distinguished them throughout their long history except poetry and the Quran. And they, at first glance, were very different, until Muslim Sufis turned their attention to the symbols and hidden shadows in the Quran in those miraculous opening verses of some surahs, such as "Qaf" and "Alif Lam Mim" and "Alif Lam Ra" and "Taa Seen..." and others from the musical tonal ladders of the unseen music.. and to the fertile Quranic stories in their symbols and dimensions, to create from them material for their symbolic poetry and enigmatic flights.. and this was a point of encounter or intersection that had to happen from the beginning. For poetry is a wound from the earliest wounds of the unseen. And we cannot gamble and determine its age, as astronomers did with the Earth, planets, and galaxies, but we can observe through the poetry of some primitive tribes that still exist today, in the Amazon forests and some African jungles, and elsewhere, such as the "Maori" tribe in New Zealand, that their songs, which are oral poetic chants, are accompanied by rituals of dance and magic, and indeed their speech is written, composed, and imaginative to such an extent that we do not assign it a share except with poetry.
