The adventures of the swallow and the Amazon

The novel "The Adventures of the Swallow and the Amazon" is one of the classics in juvenile literature. It has been translated into other languages, and in England, it occupied the same position as Mark Twain's "Tom Sawyer" in America, which led the BBC to produce it in two films and a number of serial episodes, the latest being the film "Swallows and Amazons" produced recently in 2016. The Lake District area, located northwest of England, represents the setting of the novel, inspired by the author's memories and adventures. The author refers to this in the opening of the novel, saying: "This work goes back to our distant childhood days, when my brother, my sisters, and I spent most of our holidays on a farm located at the far south of Coniston, where we played and had fun in the lake, and frolicked on the hills or their peaks, encountering farmers, cattle herders, and charcoal makers."
