The poets of the tribe Thaqif have not received their due from researchers and scholars, neither in collecting their poetry nor in studying it comprehensively, as is the case with other tribal poets. The verses of the Thaqif poets remain scattered and dispersed, and their sections fragmented. There is no doubt that gathering what has scattered from the poetry of the Arab tribes, including Thaqif, and verifying, studying, and supporting it is among the most important tasks that scholars of classical Arabic literature should focus on. This is because poetry is considered an authentic tributary of our cultural and emotional heritage, and reviving it involves clarifying the horizons of emotion, thought, and civilization in the history of the nation. Moreover, it provides a clear picture of Arab life and what they have reached in various aspects of their lives. Since Thaqif is one of the most eloquent Arab tribes in speech, and the best in expression, and the most skilled in poetry, and the most proficient in language — and their language is one of the seven languages in which the Quran was revealed — the people of language in the early centuries agreed that the most poetic among the city dwellers were the people of Yathrib, then Abd Qais, then Thaqif. This confirms the quality of Thaqif poetry and the prominence of the Thaqif tongue, which naturally flows effortlessly without difficulty.
