Product description

Over ten chapters, the book "Keys to the Treasures of Narration" discusses the major narrative genres in classical Arabic literature, starting with heroic tales before Islam, passing through historical narration, dream stories, animal tales, popular biography, sayings and proverbs circulating in cultural heritage, the maqama genre and its relation to the art of Kadiya. It examines the possibility of an ancient Arabic novel, and touches on exemplum and mythical narration translated. The book explores the cultural and structural characteristics of each of these narrative genres in light of their relationship to the established literary canon that has been developed by generations of writers as the fixed ideal value of literature, and as the language of the standard language that is unaltered. The book is concerned with examining the terminological and conceptual tools by which the language of narration itself is embedded in the cultural memory of society, and the relationship between the educated elite with the standard language on one hand, and the language of narration on the other, aiming to free the genre analysis from the ideological and cultural hierarchy imposed by the old normative critical tools.
