This novel consists of three separate stories connected only by Nutochka, the heroine of the novel. The first story is about her with her stepmother's husband, the violinist who is madly crazy, which led him to drunkenness and arrogance towards his work. Here was the first life of Nutochka, witnessing conflicts between her mother and her husband over money and also conflicts over her love for each of them. In this story, we find a true representation of the Electra complex through Nutochka's attachment to her stepfather, even though his behavior never makes him admirable. The second story is about Nutochka's life after the death of her mother and her stepfather, in the house of the prince who sponsored her and housed her in his palace, and her transition to a better life and rediscovering herself within the palace with new and different characters, and her friendship with the prince's daughter, Kanya. Here, we will learn about new types of feelings, love, and attachment. The third story is about the mysterious secret in Alexanderina's life, who will teach and raise Nutochka and even consider her her daughter. Throughout the novel, we find various kinds of feelings, emotions, conflicts, and disturbances woven by the author into a narrative and plot through the heroine of the novel.
