The praise for this research was an attractive motive to study it, as rarely are Arabic sources free from references to Al-Hariri and his maqamat, demonstrating the extensive influence of his maqamat on many styles of prose. Historians of literature and critics, both ancient and modern, agreed on their reverence for it and highlighted its value, as did Orientalists who dedicated a wide space of praise to it. Among them, Brockelmann spoke about Al-Hariri's maqamat, saying: "The artistic prose reached its peak in his maqamat, and they are the last fruit of the Arab mind; they are something that dazzles the eyes and captivates the minds." One of the most prominent commentaries on these maqamat is that of Al-Matrouzi, who is relatively recent to the death of Al-Hariri and surpasses other commentators as a skilled writer and a great linguist, as well as one of the most virtuous Hanafi jurists, in addition to being a leader in the Mu'tazila. The researcher found in this commentary sought-after insights, as it resembles an encyclopedic dictionary, containing explanations of several Quranic verses, clarifications of difficult words in many prophetic hadiths, as well as explanations of the language of the maqamat. So much so that in a single page, one finds Quranic verses, hadiths, language, notable figures, proverbs, and news. All of this was presented in the most delicate manner, with the closest approach, and in a smooth, sweet style, breaking the rigidity of linguistic and lexical commentary and its monotony.
