The Story of Philosophy: The Lives and Opinions of Great Men of Philosophy in the World is a book authored by Will Durant, in which he mentions glimpses of many prominent Western philosophers and their ideas, starting from Socrates and Plato through Friedrich Nietzsche. Durant tried to show the connection between their ideas and how one philosopher's idea inspired those who came after him.
The book consists of eleven chapters, each of the first nine chapters focusing on one philosopher, while the author provides a brief overview of three philosophers from the early twentieth century in the last two chapters. The book was published in 1924, and the revised second edition was issued in 1933. The book was originally published as a series of booklets in the Little Blue series of inexpensive booklets for the working person. It proved to be very popular, which led to compiling them into a single book and publishing it as a volume by Simon & Schuster in 1926.
