Al-Ruwais neighborhood is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Jeddah historically, located between Al-Hamra neighborhood to the north, Al-Baghdadiyah Al-Gharbia neighborhood to the south, Al-Sharifiyah neighborhood to the east, and the Corniche Sea to the west. It is bordered by Palestine Street to the north, King Abdullah Road to the south, Madinah Road to the east, and the Corniche Road to the west. It is 200 years old and rich in ancient history, famous for its giant commercial complexes, the famous Palestine Street, King Road, and Old Al-Hamra. It contains the most famous cemetery in Jeddah, Al-Ruwais Cemetery, located in its southern part. Its residents are characterized by mutual harmony.
Its residents say, "Al-Ruwais is a diminutive of the small head of the Gulf of the Red Sea, and it was said to be a suburb north of Jeddah on the coast of the sea, later connected to Jeddah and became one of its neighborhoods. The name Al-Ruwais is attributed by some of its residents to the fact that it was higher than the rest of Jeddah, like a head, during the days of our ancestors from the Hurab tribe who came to Jeddah, and they called it Al-Ruwais."
