Abdullah bin Al-Ajlal Al-Nahdi from the poets who are few, he is a pre-Islamic poet, and a chief among his people, and the son of a chief of their chiefs. He died four years before the Year of the Elephant, and his father was wealthier than most of Banu Nadhir. He was one of the infatuated poets, and among those killed by love, and he had a wife named Hinda, who was barren. His father asked him to divorce her, but he refused. Then he insisted, and he did. Then another man from Nimir married her. Abdullah bin Al-Ajlal remained poor and sick, writing poetry about her and crying for her until he died of grief. It is said that when his illness worsened, he secretly went out risking his life, until he reached Hinda’s house. When he saw her, he approached her, and she approached him. They embraced and cried until they fell on their faces dead. The edition of the Diwan of Abdullah bin Al-Ajlal Al-Nahdi before us, which was compiled and verified by Ibrahim Saleh — is a continuation of what Dr. Nouri Hamoudi Al-Qaisi managed to publish of his poetry. The number of verses in this edition reached 180 lines.
