Product description

The novel The Gambler, almost from some aspects, is a self-portrait of the author himself, as he was afflicted with the vice of gambling, to the extent of being enslaved to it to the degree of obsessive-compulsive disorder that he could not resist. It depicts how the aristocracy and similar Russian elites were crazy about gambling in the famous German cities with their world-class clubs... and its hero is a writer, an intellectual, noble, and a lover, but the madness of gambling remains in him until he sacrifices his beloved herself. He knew he was doomed and wasting his life and the chance of happiness he had dreamed of all his life, but he could not resist the allure of gambling, and he let his love go forever, a miserable regret, yes, but the devil of gambling was stronger than everything. All of this is portrayed in slow steps analyzing these conflicts between the forces of the same soul, as if the hero was struck by a demon!
