Product description
"Morality in the Liquid Modern Age" is a translation of Bauman's book published in English under the title "Is there a chance for morality in a consumerist world?" The book was published in 2008 and included an analysis of a number of major phenomena that characterize the contemporary world, which Bauman calls "Liquid Modernity." The main focus of these phenomena is the moral issue, which the Polish thinker views as influenced by the dominance of consumption in the world of consumption, in a rapidly changing world across all levels. Morality in the world of consumption is liquid, or lacking the stability or rigidity it had in previous periods, the latest of which Bauman calls the era of solid modernity, i.e., Enlightenment modernity. In a liquid world, values and identities change, political boundaries flow, and traditional barriers lose their influence and importance, whether through the flow of capital, the embarrassment of migrants, the pursuit of quick profits in communication networks, or other manifestations of liquidity that Bauman analyzes in the introduction and six chapters.
