In Morocco, there are treasures and pearls that time's hand has rested upon, and the ages of the world have overshadowed them. Moroccans have a great fondness for acquiring precious manuscripts; they preserve them as the most valuable treasures, and they compete over them. I learned from some of my Tangierian friends that there are some manuscript treasures. While I was flipping through the pages of the first manuscript, I found scattered pages. I began studying those pages, and the matter became clear: they were torn and scattered from a manuscript written about the history of the Nizari kings, the fall of the last Arab fortresses in Andalusia, and the surrender of Granada, among other important historical points. The collapse of the Arab kingdom in Andalusia and the fall of the last stronghold of Granada created in the Moroccan atmosphere abundant material for writers and poets. The noble Moroccan land was the only refuge for the displaced from Andalusia, including writers and poets. Mourning that lost paradise, memories of the landmarks of Andalusia, its way of life, its land’s beauty, and the flow of its streams in its lush gardens, as well as the gatherings of the circles of entertainment and literary clubs, and the praise of Arab glories and their noble greatness—all of this expanded the scope of inspiration and the realm of imagination for poets.
