The statement and clarification

Al-Bayan wal-Tabyeen is a book one of the greatest works of Al-Jahiz, and it follows the book Al-Hayawan in terms of size and exceeds his other books. And if the book Al-Hayawan deals with a scientific subject, then the book Al-Bayan wal-Tabyeen focuses on a literary subject. But Al-Jahiz in these two books, as in all his books, takes a philosophical approach. He does not limit himself in the book Al-Hayawan to news about animals and their qualities and temperaments, but also touches on philosophical topics such as concealment and generation, substances and accidents, the indivisible part, Manichaeism and eternalism, etc. And in the book Al-Bayan wal-Tabyeen, he is not content with presenting literary selections from speeches, messages, sayings, and poetry, but also attempts to establish the foundations of the science of rhetoric and the philosophy of language. Al-Jahiz means by Al-Bayan the indication of the meaning, and by Al-Tabyeen clarification, and the book is best known by his saying: "May Allah keep you from the speech in Al-Bayan wal-Tabyeen, and similar such from the rare hadiths, and its kind from the finest speeches, and from the well-accepted eloquence, and the extracted points, and the selected segments, and some of what is permissible in that from poetry of discussion and selected replies."
