Product description
Shmeiliov describes in the novel "A Man in the Restaurant" the character of "the simple man" or "the marginalized man," and this is clear even from the title of the novel, which talks about a simple man working as a waiter in a restaurant frequented by the wealthy who spend a lot of money on their pleasures. The man performs his work excellently and with mastery, and he seeks to save some money to buy an apartment to shelter himself and his family, as he lives in a rented apartment, and due to his poverty, he rents out part of it to other tenants. He does not want to earn money through illegal means because he is committed, principled, and religious, and it happened that he returned an amount of money that fell from one of the drunken patrons of the restaurant. A quarrel occurred between him and one of his tenants with his son Koliya. The tenant claims it was a political quarrel, and it turns out he is a police informer. The tenant hangs himself in the room after the police expelled him. The waiter’s family is forced to change the apartment. A series of calamities follow one after the other for the waiter, who places great importance on his family and values it despite all the difficulties he faced in his life. He is a believer in God and believes that he should not abandon his principles no matter how harsh his circumstances are, but he does not protest or object to reality as his son does. 250 pages 13*20
