Introduction

Why do you have to read CTG book? The aim of the CTG book is to achieve a high standard of care to reduce maternal and fetal mortality and morbidity. This is accomplished through accurate interpretation of CTG, correlating CTG findings with clinical observations, and predicting fetal acidosis. Effective communication is crucial for patient safety. Enhancing communication within the obstetric unit is essential for improving patient safety. This can be achieved by creating a common language within the unit, ensuring all team members, including midwives, residents, consultants, and specialist nurses, understand and use the same terminology. Standardizing communication and medical care reduces misunderstandings and, consequently, decreases maternal and fetal mortality and morbidity. All team members should participate actively to guarantee the best standard of care for patients. Each person in the obstetric team is accountable for contributing to educational programs in women's health, particularly intrapartum care, to achieve these goals. 9 10 Intrapartum fetal monitoring is essential for identifying fetal hypoxia and reducing perinatal morbidity and mortality. Intrapartum birth asphyxia is a major concern for obstetricians. Subjective and incorrect interpretations of CTG are common in cases related to intrapartum asphyxia. Improving quality in healthcare begins with establishing standards of care and auditing these standards to facilitate a feedback system that helps avoid mistakes and unwanted events. Education and training are key to success. While the process of education and training is challenging, the rewards are worth the effort. Continuous medical education for all staff is mandatory and should include introducing new knowledge and advancements in medicine. Creating and auditing policies in the delivery unit allows us to learn from our mistakes and improve care standards.
