In the end, when we narrowed our choices to two apartments, I insisted on one of them, and everyone agreed on it and followed my recommendation so they could return to their busy lives. One of the roommates had a dog—a small Chihuahua named Banana—and it was like a lucky charm in our apartment. Every other apartment I looked at didn't mind having dogs, but the apartment I chose objected to that. I overlooked this crucial factor in my eagerness to finish this process. We thought about sneaking him into the building and taking him out secretly for a year, but we decided it was not in our best interest.
