Discontent

Author: Beatrice Serrano Publication date: 2026 Book genre: Short stories and novels Publisher: Bayt Al-Kutub Number of pages: 212 Format: Paperback Synopsis: Marisa doesn't just hate work... she hates the life imposed on her every morning. In a suffocating advertising agency, she spends her days drugged with medication and YouTube clips, going to the office only to afford the air conditioning! She loves beautiful things, but she cannot afford to give up her soul-consuming job. Just before a group trip organized by the company, anxiety begins to build, and the ghost of an old tragedy starts haunting her again. The idea of spending a holiday with her colleagues seems like a nightmare. As the days pass, her social mask — carefully crafted over the years — begins to crack, until all contradictions explode at once. "Discontent" is a novel about everyone who works and feels that life is secretly conspiring against them. It is a story about loneliness, about the need for real bonds, about that spark we search for so we don't throw ourselves in front of a bus on the first day back to work after the holiday!
