Dealing with the elephant in the room - Moving from difficult discussions to healthy communication: Author: Mike Bechtal Language: Arabic Publication date: 2021 Book format: Paperback Publisher: Jarir Bookstore Number of pages: 261 Book category: Self-development Description: When I want to learn how to do something, I look for a book that discusses the topic, then I read the book and acquire as much information as possible, then I try to implement the task. Usually, my effort is successful, but it may take a long time. For example, if I have a faucet with a leak, I bring a book about doing plumbing work yourself. Then I read about how faucets work, then I study different types of faucets, and read about causes of leaks and the most common solutions to fix those leaks, then I make sure I have the right tools, and I start working on fixing the faucet. The book in one hand and the wrench in the other, and I will start to disassemble the faucet. After each step, I check the book to make sure I did it correctly and to learn the next step. Then, later, I met my wife’s father. When he wanted to fix something, he didn’t read a book, but he held some tools and started dismantling that thing. He explored it through research and experimentation, and almost every time he identified what needed to be done, and his method took much less time than mine. His family loved water skiing, so when I married his daughter, he taught me how to water ski, and he told me then: “Don’t bring a book about water skiing, I will hand you a rope and push you away from the back of the boat, and it’s better if you hold on tight,” and I quickly learned to ski. I have improved a lot over the years. I still love reading about things, but I also learned the value of simply starting something. Relationships require the ability to do both; they are complex and chaotic, and do not come with ready-made instructions. Books can help understand them, but we must throw ourselves into the midst of it, and do the hard work to develop those relationships. So let’s start exploring the book’s methodology. This section explores how relationships and communication work from the ground up, and once we establish this foundation, we will acquire the tools we need, and learn the skills to build relationships that thrive instead of just survive.
