Summary:
Al-Sahib Ibn Abbad was a prominent figure of the 4th century, combining ministry and writing, sword and pen, and was a leader in science and literature. He was extremely generous, of great stature, and unique in leadership and numerous virtues: his good qualities far outweighed his faults. He was a student of Ibn Al-Emid, his protégé, and his heir in ministry, and followed his style in politics and literature, and was raised in generosity and grandeur.
The ministers resemble each other in literature, its aspects, and styles, but differ in knowledge and morals. Ibn Al-Emid was well-versed in philosophy and its branches, but not proficient in religious sciences. He was a wise man, few words, composed and thoughtful in his actions and sayings, not fond of arrogance or boastfulness about his knowledge and work.
Al-Sahib was a scholar in the fundamentals and branches of religion, prioritizing text over reason. He was inclined away from philosophy and its followers, proud of his knowledge and manners, taken with displays of greatness and arrogance. He looked down on the noble and rulers, quick-witted, strong in argument, sharp in debate, eloquent, precise in answers, quick-witted, often engaged in debate, speaking with his tongue and gestures.
