Chess player: Author: Stefan Tsvaygalanguage: Arabicpublication date: 2024book format: paperbackpublisher: Aseer Books for Translation, Publishing, and Distributionnumber of pages: 104description: Stefan Tsvayg wrote to his friend Herman Kietsen five weeks before his suicide: "There is nothing important I have to say about myself, I wrote a short story in my favorite miserable model, and it is longer than to be published in a newspaper or magazine, and shorter than to be included in a book, and more mysterious than to be understood by the broad readership, and stranger than its subject matter itself."The events of the story revolve on a ship heading from the United States to Buenos Aires where the world chess champion meets a strange person on the ship, and the stranger tells the narrator his story with chess, then decides to play a match with the world champion attended by all the passengers on the ship, and the author touches on the psychological aspect of the stranger, as the story carries within it what is greater than just a game of chess. It is like a farewell message addressed to the world, which has been seized by the obsession with control and possession, and a sharp critique of Nazism from his perspective as one of its victims.
