Amidst the events of war and peace, the novel's events revolve, in which Tolstoy incorporated many characters, main and secondary, historical and fictional, created by Tolstoy himself. It provides a broad and detailed picture of the luxurious life lived by the noble class in Russia during the Tsarist rule. Some believe that the main characters, like Pierre Bezukhov and Prince Andrei, represent different aspects of Tolstoy's own personality. It is usually described as one of Tolstoy's two great masterpieces (the other being "Anna Karenina" and also one of the greatest world novels). "War and Peace" introduced a new kind of fictional story, with a large number of characters caught in a complex plot, covering great themes indicated in the title of the novel, a collection of topics similar in number, about youth, marriage, age, and death. Although it is often called a "novel" today, it broke many traditional writing conventions, which made it not considered a novel at the time.
