Introduction to the New Theology

Product description
The dogmatic tenets of classical theology do not bring tranquility to the soul, peace to the heart, or foster compassion and love. They do not recognize the equality of those who differ in belief. Classical theology does not view humanity as inherently human, but rather as adherents of its own doctrines. Those who do not subscribe to these doctrines are deemed unworthy of love and loyalty; indeed, they are considered to be ostracized. Today, Muslims need a new theology to fulfill their need for the meaning that religion provides for life, to liberate them from feelings of superiority over those who are different, and to embrace equality within a single society based on the inherent humanity of all. I recognized the urgent need to write an introduction that defines the general framework of this new theology, establishes the criteria for classifying the identity of the theologian and the new theology, and provides researchers with a roadmap outlining its fundamental principles. In this book, I propose a criterion by which we can classify a thinker as a "new theologian." This criterion lies in how the theologian defines revelation, because the method of understanding revelation is the central concept from which various theological issues branch out. Everything in religion stems from and returns to the way revelation, prophecy, and the Holy Quran are defined. Renewing the understanding of religion begins only by redefining these three central concepts within the context of humanity's contemporary needs for religious meaning and its need for something to enrich its spiritual, moral, and aesthetic life.
