The Prague Cemetery by Umberto Eco ... The events of this novel take place in the nineteenth century, between Turin, Palermo, and Paris, and it features a woman obsessed with hysteria, a priest who dies twice, some bodies in a Parisian sewer, Garibaldi called Epulito Nevo, who disappeared at sea near Stromboli Island, the fake Borduro directed to the German embassy, and the gradual development of that deception known as the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, which later inspired Hitler with extermination camps, Jesuits conspiring against Freemasons, Freemasons, chemists, and Mazzinians strangling priests with their own intestines, as well as Garibaldi suffering from gout with crooked legs, intelligence plans from Piedmont, France, Prussia, and Russia, massacres during the Paris Commune where people ate rats, stabbings, desolate places inhabited by criminals amid fumes of absinthe planning explosions and revolutions in the squares, bearded men, false notarized witnesses, false wills, satanic sects, and sorcery circles. This is excellent material for a serial novel in the style of the nineteenth century, accompanied here and there by images as in the serialized novels of that period. A novel that contains enough to satisfy the most wicked readers, with one consideration: that except for the hero, all other characters in this novel truly lived and actually committed those acts. Even the hero did things that happened to be true, except that he did many of them while different people actually did them. But who knows? When moving among intelligence agencies, double agents, treacherous officers, and sinful clergy, anything is possible. Even that the only invented character in this story is the most realistic of all the characters, and resembles many other characters who still live among us.
