Product description
The book of Ignatius Kratchkovsky (1883-1951) >with the Arabic manuscripts<, talks about the output of this prominent Russian Arabist, about his stay in Arab countries, about the rare manuscripts he found and read, and about the people connected to Arabic literature. It sheds a bright light on various stages of his scientific activity, happy discoveries, and sometimes disappointments. He authored it during the war, mainly in Moscow and its suburbs, where he had been evacuated after a severe illness he contracted during the Siege of Leningrad; so his entire personal library, and all the materials and Leningrad manuscripts, were not accessible to the author, and his wonderful memory was his aid. The book did not limit itself to mentioning manuscripts and libraries but extensively mentioned scholars (Arabs and Arabists), his teachers, students, librarians, and library staff.
