Kindness of strangers

I studied history at the university, and I loved this major; it helped me see how the world has become what it is now, then I discovered the world of biographies and memoirs, and it was like a beautiful, elegant cloak over the stern body of history. I saw history in the personalities of its heroes and their stories; biographies make it breathe and become present in consciousness and closer to us. I started to see in every biography a table inviting me to it. I enjoyed the company of biographers and saw them as spiritual fathers who put their lives in their hands and nourished me with their experiences and wisdom.
