The burning secret

The Burning Secret (Translated Novel) - Stefan Zweig The events of this "Burning Secret" revolve around a reckless and cunning man, a hesitant mother, and a child still in the bloom of innocence but distinguished by remarkable maturity. Their feelings initially intertwine in a delicate, harmonious manner, then clash and flare up until it becomes difficult to control them. A single baron stays at a hotel in the Austrian Alps and chooses a prominent woman as his prey, accompanied by her twelve-year-old son. To reach his goal skillfully and quickly, he approaches the beautiful lady and resorts to establishing a opportunistic relationship with the child. However, the cunning man, after passing the stage of approaching the mother, sought to distance her son, who soon became an obstacle in his way. This will make the child, having sensed that his "friend" had deceived him, resort to all means to thwart the man's attempts to approach the woman. Tension, suspense, rapid pace, and short chapters make this novel a wonderful reading moment, once again demonstrating Zweig's exceptional talent in exploring the depths of the human soul. It is another craft created by a superior artisan.
