Most of Russell's works have been translated into Arabic, but some of his most famous and influential articles that are widely read are still not available in Arabic. We gather some of these articles here in this book. This selected collection of articles aims to fill this gap, on one hand, and on the other hand, helps us reach answers to central questions we face today. All the translated articles here are popular articles written for non-specialists, but this does not diminish their intellectual value. Russell was committed throughout his life to working towards changing the world he lives in, and to addressing the audience with a clear rational style. This is one of the intellectual virtues of philosophy: explanation, clarification, simplification, and opening the field for everyone to participate in the process of changing the world. The articles revolve around three themes: First, freedom: Russell's lifelong advocacy for freedom of expression in the face of religious and nationalist extremism. His struggle was a defense of freedom of expression regardless of oppressive force. This fundamental principle was one of his main concerns in politics and ethics. Second, religion: Russell criticized the Bolsheviks' suppression of believers, as well as the persecution of atheists by religious people. His stance on religion stems from a principled commitment to freedom of expression and belief. Third, rationality and philosophy: Russell defended rationality throughout his life and rejected belief in any issue or opinion not supported by clear rational evidence. On the other hand, mainly following Hume, Russell believes that the mind has limits, and that rational stance also requires acknowledging that our understanding of the world is limited by the boundaries of reason.
