Other vessels of mine hold wine, and others hold oil inside the hollow cellar encircled by its mud. And I, the smallest and the most agile of them all, hollow myself with humility so that I am filled with just a few tears. The wine becomes richer and the oil in its vessel becomes clearer, so what about the tears? Tears made me blind in my bottle, made me heavy, and made my bendings ugly in color, made me fragile, and ultimately left me empty.
Rainer Maria Rilke is a German poet, who addressed various topics in his poetic and prose literature, rich in details, mainly based on the troubled facts of his life. But what distinguishes Rilke's style is not only his presentation of life facts and personal experiences, but also the way he dealt with essential human topics, through a deep philosophical vision that is imperishable, including themes of love, childhood, longing, hope, hatred, misery, loneliness, friendship, and death. Perhaps the words of longing, death, and loneliness were dominant in the creativity of the poet and prose writer in his early works.
