There is no one better than "Jean-Jacques Rousseau" himself to introduce us to his book "Discourse on the Origin and Basis of Inequality Among Men," as he says: "I speak of man, and I know from the matter I am investigating that I am speaking to people, and I imagine the existence of two types of inequality in the human race. The first type is what I call natural; because it is from the state of nature, and it is based on differences in age, health, physical strength, and qualities of the soul or spirit. The second type is what I can call moral or political inequality; because it depends on some kind of covenant, and it is based on the consent of people, ..... It is foolish to ask about the source of natural inequality; because the answer is in the simple definition of the word, and less than that: the possibility of searching for an essential connection between the two inequalities, because this only means — in other words — asking whether those holding the reins of leadership are better than those who obey out of necessity, and whether there is strength of body or spirit, and whether there is wisdom or virtue, always within individuals themselves, and in proportion to their strength or wealth. It may be good to raise this question among slaves in front of their masters, but it is inappropriate for rational and free people who seek the truth!"
