Alim Imam Abdul Hamid bin Muhammad bin Badis Al-Sanhaji, from the reform figures and pioneer of the Islamic renaissance in Algeria, and founder of the Association of Muslim Scholars in Algeria. He is Abdul Hamid bin Muhammad Al-Mustafa bin Al-Makki bin Muhammad Kohol bin Al-Hajj Ali Al-Nouri bin Muhammad bin Muhammad bin Abdul Rahman bin Barkat bin Abdul Rahman bin Badis Al-Sanhaji. Born in Constantine, the capital of eastern Algeria, on Wednesday, 11 Rabi' al-Thani 1307 AH, corresponding to December 4, 1889 AD. Badis's personality is rich and abundant, and it is difficult in a narrow space of writing to encompass all its dimensions and effects; he is a renewer and reformer calling for the renaissance of Muslims and teaching how the renaissance should be. He says, "Muslims only rise according to their faith in Allah and His Messenger if they have strength, and if they have an organized group that thinks, considers, consults, supports each other, and rises to bring benefit and ward off harm, working together with thought and determination." He is a scholar of Tafsir, who explained the entire Quran during twenty-five years in his daily lessons, as he also explained Al-Muwatta of Malik during this period. He is a politician who wrote in magazines and newspapers issued by him about the reality of Muslims, especially in Algeria, attacking France and its colonial methods, and explaining the principles of Islamic politics. Above all, he is the educator who took upon himself the responsibility of raising generations in schools and mosques, establishing schools and caring for them, which was among his most important works. He is also the one who manages the affairs of the Association of Muslim Scholars of Algeria, supervises the management of Al-Shihab magazine, and maintains continuous contact with the grassroots.
