Product description
The book begins with an introduction of what its editors called "The Approach of Women, Culture, and Development," which distinguishes women in the third world and their resistance to the difficult circumstances they find themselves in. This resistance is cultural by nature, because economies, social relations, and ideologies are expressed through cultures. The book tells us stories of women from Nigeria, Egypt, India, Argentina, and other various countries. The editors see that the coming decades are an adventure for survival, and for us, inspired by the many ways women and men in the third world resist the circumstances they find themselves in. The book also discusses the violations and exploitation faced by African women more than ever before, and seeks solutions to resist this exploitation and these violations. "This collection of feminist theories embraces diverse experiences of women, who are many on the front lines of resistance, in, against, and beyond the assaults of ideologies, market-based practices, migration, and climate change. This feminist theory – transnational, post-colonial, and third-world feminism – explains how culture is the critical means through which we can all unite to challenge comprehensive and widespread forms of oppression at both the global and local levels, which occur in diverse contexts. Not only through women alone; and in an attempt to better understand women's lives amidst all the chaos resulting from resistance and submission, we more clearly realize that feminist women and the future are also centered around men. This future is for all of us, and this book offers us a glimpse of how some of us hope to explore it."
