Product description
This book The books of (al-Tabaqat) have enjoyed and still enjoy a high status in the entire Islamic heritage, and this status was only achieved because they contain information reflecting different aspects of the lives of the biographee, which we do not find in traditional history writings. That is why researchers have paid attention in their works to these books, which cast a bright light on the social, political, and scientific aspects of Islamic history figures, in a way that is rarely seen even in works dedicated specifically to the history of states or groups. The orientalist scholars have devoted their interest from early times to the emergence of (al-Tabaqat) books, tracing their history, and introducing their authors, attempting to explore their methodologies. (George Makdisi) was one of the most important orientalist scholars who discussed various opinions about the origin of the science of (al-Tabaqat) and studied the methods of its authors, highlighting the importance of the sciences of jurisprudence and theology, and also shedding light on the intense conflict between the scholars of hadith and the theologians, demonstrating how these factors and others influenced the emergence of this science.
