The novel talks about a young Andalusian shepherd named Santiago. He went in search of his dream represented by a buried treasure near the pyramids of Egypt. His journey started from Spain when he met King Melchizedek who told him about the treasure. He crossed the Strait of Gibraltar passing through Morocco until he reached Egypt, and his guidance throughout the journey was mystical signs. On his way to find his dream treasure, many events occur, each of which became an obstacle almost preventing him from continuing his journey, until he finds the means to overcome this obstacle... And thus, the idea of this novel is summarized in a sentence the king said to Santiago: "If you desire something... the whole world will conspire to help you achieve your desire."
