Product description

This book is a research work concerned fundamentally with monitoring the stance of modern Salafism in Egypt towards Sufism, its people, ideas, and methods, and the extent to which their positions align with each other. It then presents these positions in relation to the stance of early Salafi scholars, foremost among them the positions of Ibn Taymiyyah and Ibn al-Qayyim. As for the temporal and spatial limits of the research, they are in the modern era, in Egypt. It is well known how significant the geographical boundary is, as most of the intellectual and scientific efforts in Egypt were concentrated in the late 19th century and the early 20th century until near its middle. This increases the importance of studying the impact of different opinions and ideas specifically in Egypt. Moreover, it is not hidden from anyone familiar with the course of ideas and their fluctuations within minds the nature of the conflict between Egyptian Salafism and Sufism from the early 20th century until today. This is evidenced by the number of publications classified from both sides, establishing their origins, responding to their opponents, or even accusing them of innovation and deviation from the way of the people of truth. This was followed by intense hostility between them that lasted nearly a century! — From the words of the center.
