Product description
This book contributes to the landmarks of existential phenomenological philosophy at Maurice Merleau-Ponty, and clarifies its position, not only within other types of phenomenology but also within contemporary philosophy as a whole. This is what all the contributing researchers in this book aimed for, as all their works came as an attempt to highlight the aspects that distinguish Merleau-Ponty's philosophy. Here lies the value, importance, and even the necessity of this book. We hope that this book will be a real contribution to enriching the Arab library with a book about a philosopher who has not yet received the proper study, because most studies on phenomenology have focused on Husserl as the founder of phenomenology, and most studies on existentialism have focused on Sartre as the most prominent representative of the existentialist school. It is worth noting that Merleau-Ponty is not just a reader of Husserl, and his writings were not in a literary style like Sartre's, but rather in a distinguished academic style.
Existential phenomenology at Merleau-Ponty attempts to answer the questions of contemporary philosophy in all its existential, cognitive, value-based, aesthetic, and historical dimensions. It has addressed the problem of the relationship between the self and the object, and explored the true meaning of existence in the world. It worked to investigate the relationship between the I and the other, as well as to clarify the features of contemporary linguistic analysis. Additionally, it notably raised the issue of art, without neglecting aspects of history, politics, and ethics.
The research and studies contained within the pages of this book aim to address these aforementioned aspects of existential phenomenology at Merleau-Ponty, among others.
