Product description
This book includes the collection of new texts by Ferdinand de Saussure discovered in 1996 and published in 2002, by Gallimard in France, consisting of five groups in which Saussure addressed issues in semiotics, general linguistics, historical comparative linguistics, geographical linguistics, and other issues in methodology, discourse, and epistemology of linguistics. The translator presented these texts in four chapters on Saussurean philology, striving to date them, introduce their contributions to the realization and interpretation of Saussure's texts, and their effort to reveal his intellectual system. The texts contained in this book make a definitive break with the book of lectures in general linguistics attributed to Saussure, and adopt a critical distance from the concepts that most schools of linguistics in the last century attributed to him. The new Saussureanisms "néosaussurisme," which have become the prominent feature of this new century, are on the verge of realizing Saussure's original project, aiming to unify the linguistics of language and speech within a general semiotic framework.
