Product description

The book was originally designed as a school guide for first-year students in sociology. As well as for the large audience of intellectuals eager to expand their knowledge in social sciences. But as its achievement progressed, it took on more significant dimensions beyond being just an overview to an in-depth exploration of the specialty without avoiding its complexities and discussing its theoretical models in an original way. Each contributor to this work presented a problematic that opens the discussion on the various points raised. This desire to be open to the current sociological debate and to present a clear picture of it without simplifying existing theoretical issues, and to provide a comprehensive view with a focus on contemporary productions without neglecting the fundamental references re-read, is what constitutes the importance of this book and fully justifies its translation. The book includes three main parts, the first being a general part that covers four sections dealing with the birth of sociology, major theoretical currents, and three incidental issues that the translation limited itself to, excluding the section dedicated to methodology. The second part addresses twelve sociological fields. Meanwhile, the final part opens a window for discussing sociological practices. Unfortunately, the translation did not include the entire book. Nevertheless, the achievement is remarkable considering that such works require cooperation from many parties. This is possible in the future. In summary, translating the first part of the book is a necessary initial step to open the discussion and reconsider sociology in Algeria at this current stage.
