There is an idea that says: "They fought until the last man and until the last breath," where individuals sacrifice their lives with the most precious thing they own in hopes of living comfortably, and when extermination seems inevitable, they will sacrifice everything they have for a chance to live one more day. History has witnessed many examples of individuals refusing to surrender. In World War II, the Japanese decided to commit suicide because of their religious belief that their lives belonged to their emperor. There was a widespread concept among their fighters called "commendable combat behavior," which emphasizes the spirit of the group and is used as a strong motivator; it makes the soldier respond to the call of duty, adhere to discipline and traditions, and be ready to die. His greatest fear was to be branded with shame in front of his comrades. This could reach the point of absurdity when the commander orders his troops to act bravely and "not care even if their fate is hell." One of the strangest incidents illustrating this occurred during the Battle of the Somme in 1916 when Captain Neville, a British Army battalion commander, ordered the men of the 8th County Regiment to leave their positions and attack the enemy. Then he had a crazy idea to make his men kick a football across the forbidden zone and chase it to the German lines. All members of the battalion, including the captain who issued the order, were killed.
