The Führer is still alive and leading the defense in Berlin. However, he no longer has anything to lead, and his death has become almost certain. He sank into his comfortable seat and memories of his relationship with Mussolini; its sweet and bitter moments, came to mind from afar. He feared and hated him when Dolfus was killed, but he felt a great appreciation for him when he supported him in Munich during the Sudeten problem. How he wished to hang him when he learned that he was in contact with the French and the English at the start of the war. But he soon thanked him for his continued loyalty to the Axis and his refusal to open a second front against him. Then he felt anger towards him when he saw the weakness of the Italian armies in the Greek and North African wars! Yet he sympathized with him when he was ousted from power and detained in the Gran Sasso mountains. When the Nazi faces began their trial in November 1945, only 110 buildings remained intact in the historic city. The Allied bombing had destroyed all traces of Nazism, wiping out everything that had accumulated in that area of historic and artistic buildings over centuries. But some buildings remained standing, such as the three-story Palace of Justice, with its very spacious corridors; the western part, shaped like a semicircle and containing the detainees’ cells, also escaped the bombing.
