Because the history of contemporary Arab thought is largely the history of its reception of the concept of modernity, and therefore deepening the view of this history requires deepening the view of the concept of modernity. And because the question of modernity in its philosophical framework remains a current question in addressing the contemporary Arab mind, and it still needs further study and analysis, in terms of the nature of the entry of this question into our Arab thought… the historical circumstances that produced it… the nature of the response to it… and the answers provided to it… For this reason, this book from the Namaa Center was created, in which its author presents a serious analytical reading of the idea of modernity and its representations in the writings of three of the most prominent thinkers of Arab modernity who contributed through their publications and intellectual presence to clarify the idea of modernity in our Arab reality: Muhammad Arkoun, Muhammad Abed al-Jabri, and Hisham Gaaït. It examines each of their projects, what it contains of foundational elements, methodological tools, and conceptual systems, and how modernity with its origins, concepts, and also its issues is manifested in all of that.
